Students are encouraged to cultivate a growth mindset, and to facilitate this shift in mindset, many assignments will be differentiated or individualized to meet the needs of particular students.  Students with a growth mindset persevere through difficult material, and in 8th grade Science, there will be a significant amount of difficult material.  We will be studying concepts that cannot be seen directly, so students must be critical thinkers and dutiful observers.

Although the needs of each student are different, the end goals are the same.  Your grade in this class will reflect your work ethic and effort as well as your outright ability to meet the expectations of the state standards. At the end of a unit, your grade will be reflective of how well you achieved the learning targets.  That is why 80% of your grade will be based on assessments.

My current late work policy is to accept most late work but students should feel empowered to ask for more time when needed - this will help me know more about your personal needs.
